Who thinks the Book of Revelation was about events in the 1st century AD and not about the future?
The Book of Revelations is really meant to convey hope of God's deliverance to the first Christians suffering from sever persecution. For instance, "Babylon" refers to imperial Rome, and the beast refers to Emperor Nero. The Armageddon battles refers to the Roman-Jewish wars and the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD. The main message is God's victory for His people over the evil forces personified by the Roman persecutions. The was the original teachings of the Church Fathers.
